Lovington Man Jailed for Threats After Arrest
Howard E. Thomas, 20, of East Star Route Lovington, jailed 30 days in Lea County for threatening to do bodily harm after 6:15 p.m. Wednesday arrest by city police. Bennie Dunn signed the complaint. Harvest in Lea County stands about 78 percent complete with 97 percent of cotton picked by machines last week.

Lovington recorded a fairly normal year weather wise in 1965 with a high of 99 degrees on August 31 and a low of 8 above zero on February 24 and March 20. Precipitation totaled 13.31 inches, below the normal 15.47, with July the wettest month at 2.82 and January driest with none. Snowfall reached 2 inches for the year.

Second Man Sought In Wire Theft Warrant Issued
A late afternoon warrant seeks a second man, Rafael Soto of Lovington, in connection with the theft of a half-ton of copper wire from the Lea County Co-op power plant on East D. A prior warrant named Adolfo Sanchez, 26, of Lovington, for the same theft. The wire had been stored at the old plant after removal from downtown Christmas street lighting.

Damage Heavy In Two Car Wreck
A two car collision after 8:30 a.m. at 13th Street and Avenue M caused heavy damage to a 1960 Chevrolet driven by 16 year old Pamela Wallace Lovington and a 1959 Pontiac driven by 19 year old Dudley Norvell Lovington. Police cited Norvell for failure to yield right of way with damages listed as 150 and 300 dollars respectively.

No Civil Cases Tried As Yet In Lea County Court
Close to a score of civil cases were set to be tried this week in Lea County District Court but none reached trial as all were settled, passed, or reset. Trials were not held Monay through Friday and into next Monday with two cases set for Tuesday of next week. A 42 year old Hobbs man, Charles Ivan Smith, was charged with driving while license suspended after being picked up by state police in Lovington. He posted $500 bond.
