Cargo Sets Plan For Districts
Gov David Cargo proposed a congressional district map for New Mexico with ten counties in the northern district and twenty two in the southern district. He would seek legislature approval to create a northern district including Bernalillo San Juan Sandoval Los Alamos Rio Arriba Taos Santa Fe Miguel Mora and Colfax counties. The southern district would cover the remaining counties. He said a third seat is unlikely after the 1970 Census and current representatives are elected at large.

Judge Hears Five Cases In District Court
Judge Kermit Nash heard five cases yesterday. Larry Wayne Phillips, 18, pled guilty to allowing himself to possess alcoholic beverages and was sentenced to 30 days in county jail. Steve Beals, 20, had sentencing deferred for 30 days after pleading guilty to forgery. Jessie Carrasco, 19, had his case continued for one week on a charge of permitting himself to be served. A juvenile female was released into custody of her grandmother and her trial on a larceny charge will be set for a later date.

Kidnap Victims Released In Lovington
Two boys 16 from Lubbock were forced to drive a kidnapper from Lubbock to Lovington. They described a 20 to 30 year old man, 5 10, 145 to 150 pounds, red shirt Levi's boots and brown shearling jacket. He fled after leaving the car at Birch and Second Street. The victims were treated at a local doctor and police notified. The man took $5 in total.
