Living Cost Rises Again in November Report

The Labor Department says the cost of living rose two tenths of a percent in November, lifting the index to 110.6 of the 1957-59 base and making a dollar worth 90.0 cents by those standards. Food held steady while other categories climbed including cars, apparel, housing, and medical care. The year to date shows a 1.7 percent rise from November 1964, driven mainly by services and food.

Woman Gassed While Camping in New Mexico

Mrs Faye Bass 50 of Duncan Oklahoma died when she was asphyxiated during a roadside park camping incident on U S 66. Her husband Oren Bass 46 was revived by a passerby and police officer Travis McCoy. Coroner's jury ruled the death an accident.

Minor Damage In Two Car Collision At Main And Avenue I

Police report a two car crash near noon Wednesday at Main Street and Avenue I. Donnie Earnest, 16, drove a 1959 Chevrolet. Eva Langlitz, 67, drove a 1953 Chevrolet. Langlitz’s vehicle sustained about $50 damage. Earnest’s car was undamaged.

New Year Traffic Toll Forecast Amid Holiday Caution

United Press International reports safety officials warn motorists as Americans begin a long New Year’s holiday. The National Safety Council calls last weekend’s fatality rate a national disaster and predicts 360 to 440 traffic deaths during the 78-hour period from 6 p.m. today to midnight Sunday.

Lovington High Bands Head to Cotton Bowl Parade

The Lovington High School Band with 90 players and 12 chaperones departs Friday at 8 a.m. for Dallas to join the Cotton Bowl parade and game between LSU and Arkansas. The group, the only New Mexico band in the nine annual event, will march 59th in the lineup and appear on CBS. The trip includes meals, a hotel stay at the Statler Hilton, a New Year’s Eve party, Cinerama viewing, and return by 8 p.m. Sunday. Funds come from the annual Band Parents Association flag sale.

Fire damages pulling unit near Skelly plant southwest of Lovington

About $10,000 damage was reported to a pulling unit eight miles southwest of Lovington near the Skelly plant. Firefighters from Lovington battled the blaze for about 35 minutes after a 9:30 a.m. call. Ralph Johnson of Hobbs owns the unit. A stray spark from a motor is listed as the probable cause.
