Funeral services for Roman Jackson Huffman 66 will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Smith Rodgers Funeral Chapel Lovington with Rev. G W Turner officiating. Burial at Resthaven Cemetery. He died at Lea General Hospital after two weeks of hospitalization. Survivors include wife Georgia five sons four daughters four brothers one sister and 21 grandchildren.

A Maljamar man, Dave Singleton Jr., is hospitalized after a wreck on State Highway 31 between Maljamar and Hagerman. He was taken to Lea General Hospital, then transferred to Lubbock for surgery. His ten-year-old son, who was riding with him, was treated locally and released.

Girls Choose Ranch Life Over Home for Christmas
Seven teenage girls at a newly formed youth ranch in Clovis prefer staying at the facility rather than returning home for Christmas. Juvenile Officer Odell Parrish conceived the ranch in 1964 and began operation last April, funded entirely by donations. He says the program promises to lift them from terrible circumstances and grant them a chance at independent living, noting several adoption offers have been refused.

Ralph Bowyer of Carlsbad resigns as head football coach to focus on duties as athletic director and coordinator of physical education at Carlsbad High School. County Ginning At Standstill In Lea County
Lea County ginning slowed to 777 bales this past week with 402 bales of Lea County cotton ginned. Bruce Jackson of the New Mexico State Employment Service notes little damage to the crop may allow farmers to reach gins if weather clears. Total ginned this fall 22 604 bales, 18 072 Lea County, compared with 23 390 Lea bales last year at this date. About 93 percent of last week's harvest was machine picked and Lea County harvest is just under 70 percent complete.
