Other honors went to Mrs. Wilma Bevers, Jimmy Williams. Rosa English. Doyle Nagle. Mrs. Earl Belford. Mrs. Wayne Smith. Troop 5 Girl Scout Hut. and several notable homes. Judges noted many fine decorations and urged adding an Outdoor Greeting Card category next year.

Eight Apparently Drawn With Front Half Of Broken Tanker
Eight seamen rode a small boat through eight foot seas to reach the drifting stern of the Pine Ridge and assist John Richart in taking a tow line for rescue. The 503 foot tanker split in two in a Wednesday storm about 125 miles east of Cape Hatteras. Nine crew members survived in the stern while eight others including Capt. Clark Snyder likely perished in the bow. Navy and Coast Guard ships and planes conducted a long night search as Coast Guard helicopters rescued men from the stern with harnesses. Seaman Paul Guetzow drowned after being swept overboard from USS Eaton en route to the scene.
