The State Corporation Commission considers a 17.9 percent rate increase for New Mexico freight to cover rising costs. Otero Grand Jury Praises Police Narcotics Raids

An Otero County Grand Jury released a 14 page report praising State Police for conducting widespread narcotics raids last summer. It also urges magistrate courts to pay rent for space in the courtroom and rejects a six month reassignment of Asst. Dist. Atty. James Huber to Las Cruces. The panel says conflict between the district attorney and district court is beyond reconciliation and justice will suffer until the DA's office acts.

The New Mexico state sponsored loan program moves toward next semester with an anticipated bond sale of 1.2 million on Jan 5 based on 1,400 loan applications. The program replaces banks in administering loans at 7 percent for residents attending private or public colleges, with federal review required before funding up to 1500 dollars per semester.

Cotton Bowl Parade Bands Tour Dallas on New Year Day

The Cotton Bowl Festival Parade on New Year’s Day features thirteen high school bands from across the country along with junior colleges and drill teams. St Thomas Hosts Posadas Services Each Night

St Thomas Catholic Church presents a simplified Posadas re enactment during the Christmas season. Children portray Mary and Joseph as they seek lodging at three church doors before being welcomed at the front entrance. Performances begin tonight about 6 o clock with further shows at 7 30 pm Wednesday and Thursday.
