Fourth Complaint Filed Against Reies Tijerina

A fourth amended complaint in the New Mexico case against Reies Lopez Tijerina and others was filed in Santa Fe district court. It adds Geronimo Borunda and two counts of assault with intent to kill targeting State Police man Nick Saiz and Rio Arriba Undersheriff Daniel Rivera. A Jan. 29 preliminary hearing date was set, with Borunda held in Santa Fe jail.

Lovington Weather Clears By Weekend Warmth Returns

Lovington forecast shows fair weather through Saturday with a low tonight near 20 and a high around 46. New Mexico expects cold tonight, then improving conditions by Saturday with low valleys at 10 below to 5 above and snow cover in some areas.

Post Office Opens Saturday For Parcel Pickup

The Post Office will be open tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. with windows limited to package pickup. Regular mail service continues, mail carriers deliver as usual, and parcel post trucks operate. No mail except special delivery will be delivered on Sunday and Monday, Christmas Day.

Copper Talks To Start Wednesday

Talks between management and the striking unions resume on two fronts Wednesday to end the nationwide copper strike now in its 161st day. Kennecott Copper Corp in Salt Lake City and Phelps Dodge in Douglas, Arizona, are to return to bargaining with federal mediators. a Ely Nevada poll shows 62 percent of Kennecott workers favor returning to work, though company officials caution it does not signal a move to end the dispute.
