Lovington Christmas Bonanza To Give Away Car And Toys
A street giveaway in Lovington will award a new 1962 Buick at 2 p m Saturday between Lea Theatre and the courthouse. Toys including a bicycle radios dolls and a tricycle will be awarded at 1 30 p m. The event closes a month long Bonanza sponsored by 59 merchants with over 100000 tickets. Reese Greaves will host the event and Les Villers will present gifts with ticket draws by Chief James Robinson and a police staff member.

If a participant misses the appearance time the ticket is returned to the drum and another drawn. A spouse cannot claim a prize for the other, nor can a parent claim for a child. The south courthouse road will be roped off for spectators. Last year drew about 4,000 people. this year is expected to exceed that turnout.

Grants, New Mexico man David Mace, 40, was killed when his car swerved into a truck at the U.S. 40 51 intersection in Vandalia, Illinois. His wife Vanda, 37, and daughters Sharon, 16, and Marsha, 9, were seriously injured and hospitalized.

Smoke Forces Continental DC3 Back To Roswell
Smoke in the passenger cabin triggered by a short circuit in a cockpit fuse panel caused Continental Airlines to return to Roswell with 20 passengers. The DC3, bound for Albuquerque from El Paso, was rerouted after the precautionary return. Mechanics were sent from El Paso to repair the wiring.

BEA Comet IV B Crash Near Ankara Kills 27
A British European Airways Comet IV B jetliner en route to Tel Aviv crashed in a snowstorm shortly after takeoff from Ankara. Twenty seven of the 34 aboard died including four or five Americans and all seven crew members. Four Americans, an Israeli diplomat, two others survived. The dead include Floyd Miller and two young women among the American victims. The plane reportedly climbed to about ten feet before crashing.
