The Lovington industrial park will announce a new multi million dollar venture next week promising strong prospects for a local physician recruitment by Llano Estacado Medical Center. A foreign born family doctor with US training may move here to boost hospital activity and support county services.
President Ford plans deeper tax cuts after Congress extends breaks, tying future reductions to adherence to a $395 billion budget. A White House spokesman said Ford would sign the new tax bill Friday after Congress accepted a nonbinding pledge to curb federal spending.
Ford would seek to hold Congress to his pledge to deny any future tax cuts if the budget proposal exceeds a 93 billion ceiling for the 1977 fiscal year. Press Secretary Ron Nessen said the president would submit a 93 billion budget and a tax cut plan similar to last fall’s 28 billion proposal. The rhetoric centers on constraining lawmakers from expanding the tax cut beyond the limit.
President Ford stated at the White House that Soviet arms deliveries to Angola could harm detente and that Cuba’s deployment of troops ruined any chance for improved US relations with Angola. He spoke during an impromptu half hour news conference and criticized the Senate vote.
Reese Greaves, first administrator of the Lovington Good Samaritan Nursing Home, will return January 1 as temporary administrator until a permanent head is chosen by the Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society. He replaces Bill McKinney on medical leave. Greaves helped found the facility a decade ago and led its initial administration in 1968. John Rude of the Society in Sioux Falls expects a permanent administrator within 30 days.
The Public Service Commission of Santa Fe New Mexico rejects Southern Union Gas Co. proposed 9.3 million rate increase after finding the utility had a revenue excess of 345,892. The decision follows 17 days of hearings and 3,400 pages of transcripts with adjustments to revenues, expenses, taxes, rate base, and return on equity. Authority Lithgow said the commission set a 7 percent return on rate base and 13.5 percent on common equity as fair for customers and the company. The utility may appeal to district court.
New Mexico critics urge caution on a uranium enrichment plant noting the full nuclear cycle from mining to waste disposal. Dr. Donald Neeper warns against expanding nuclear facilities without comprehensive siting policies and safety measures. Brant Calkin cites energy waste and calls for conservation policy before expansion.
United Press International reports partly cloudy conditions with little temperature change. Lovington highs in the mid 50s and overnight lows near the mid 20s.
A Hobbs woman lost her claim against the City of Lovington after a district court jury found for the defendant. Geraldine Layh landed at the bottom of the Rocket slide in Chaparral Park while with her granddaughter, citing maintenance negligence and seeking 50 000 dollars. The city defended the slide as well maintained with a strong safety record.
Washington report notes Sweden and Switzerland surpassing the United States in per capita GNP for 1974, based on World Bank Atlas three year weighting. U S ranking falls to third. United Arab Emirates leads all nations with a per capita GNP of about 13,500.

Terry Criswell 34, owner of T and G Jack Repair and Fire Equipment, announced his candidacy for Lea County Sheriff on the Democratic ticket in June 1976. A Hobbs resident, Criswell previously served as deputy in Hobbs and later owned Jake's Jack Repair Service. He holds Jaycee roles and Miss New Mexico Pageant board directorships.
