G D Shelley district manager for General Telephone Company reports Lovington’s growth has driven extensive additions to telephone service. A new building will house long distance facilities and all new central office equipment to improve local service.
General Telephone Company of the Southwest announces a complete number change for Lovington effective Sunday December 21 1958. The new EXbrook prefix replaces old lines and party numbers while introducing terminal car service and improved facilities to serve about 3,300 phones. 75 rural subscribers added. building at 201 North Second expanded operations.
United Press International highlights two top figures in New Mexico in 1958 Mike Todd died in a crash near Grants while John Burroughs rose from obscurity to govern the state. CAPE CANAVERAL Fila. The Air Force fired the United States newest ballistic missile, the Titan, in a test launch Saturday but it failed to leave its pad. A first stage engine malfunction cut off the rocket while still on the pad.
About 1,500 American Airlines pilots walked out across the nation grounding the largest fleet. Eastern Airlines faced parallel walkouts by flight engineers and machinists. Texas oil activity shows improved daily production at 3 133 069 barrels with 232 oil well completions this week. Yearly oil totals reach 11 920 while gas completions rise to 2 068. Of 71 wildcat wells, 67 are dry and two produce oil and two yield gas.
