Mrs Chambliss Laid To Rest In Lea County

Final rites for Mrs. Mattie Mae Chambliss 62 of Air Base City were held at 2 30 PM Thursday at Glad Things Assembly of God Church. Rev A L Henderson of Odessa officiated burial followed at Prairie Haven Cemetery Griffin Funeral Home directed arrangements. Survived by husband G Y Chambliss two daughters Annie Belingat and Juanita Chambliss five sons J Kert Delbert Felton Amos Amarillo Clarence and Kenneth four sisters Lannie Freeman Tessie Blevins Hattie Calhoun Laura Lafton and one brother T J Oats Pallbearers were E M Murrell James Alexander Dale Alexander Johnnie Lankford Rev Edward Scott and Willie Moore.

Court Room Photography Ban Protest Led by Sigma Delta Chi

The Sigma Delta Chi journalism fraternity protests a State Supreme Court ban on courtroom photography. Members met in Albuquerque and approved a letter urging the high court to allow television radio and newspaper coverage of courtroom proceedings.

Four Prisoners Escape From Lea County Jail Break

Four inmates fled the Lea County jail on the third floor of the courthouse morning break. By 10 a.m. all four were recaptured in Lovington, after roadblocks were set and deputies pursued across town. Police tracked Jackson, Leax, and Rinehart to Maxwell apartments, then returned them to custody along with Burleson.

NATO backs US plan for missiles in Europe amid talks

Paris reports say NATO Allies accepted the US offer to stockpile nuclear weapons and base medium range missiles on their soil. Dulles and Lloyd backed disarmament talks with Russia and Germany’s reunification while a Big Four meeting was proposed for further negotiations. Eisenhower to address the nation next week.

Denver Voters Defeat Proposed City Income Tax

Denver voters soundly rejected a city income tax with a lead of over 11 000 votes. Latest totals from 416 of 429 precincts show 44 461 for and 55 698 against. Mayor Will F Nicholson conceded defeat praising earnest citizen efforts and thanking supporters.

Former Resident Dies In Texas

Dot Woods, former Lovington resident, died in Sonora Texas on Monday December 16 from a heart attack. Services were held that afternoon in Sonora. Survived by wife Mae, son Douglas of Sonora, daughters Loretta Owens Colorado City Nora Mae Powers South Dakota and Louise Dugan Carlsbad, seven grandchildren, mother Nancy Wood near Lovington three sisters and two brothers.
