Jet and Constellation Crash in Snowstorm Over New York
A United Air Lines DC8 and a TWA Super Constellation collided in a snowstorm over New York, killing many aboard and on the ground. One 11-year-old survivor, Stephen Baltz, was pulled from the wreckage alive. Firefighters fought a seven‑alarm blaze that spread through a Brooklyn block. The TWA flight, from Dayton and Columbus, crashed on Staten Island. six survivors died after hospital care. A 73 year old Belmont New Hampshire man with dynamite in his car was arrested in Palm Beach Florida for threatening to become a human bomb to kill President elect John F Kennedy. Federal agents said the threat came in a December 9 letter but Pavlick denied any plan to kill Kennedy. Kennedy was in Washington as agents traced Pavlick who had sold his property and went to the capital.
