United Press International reports high cloudiness and cooler conditions today in the Eastern Plains. Fair Thursday with little temperature change. Lovington expected in the mid 50s, with overnight lows around the mid 20s.

The New Mexico Legislature drops intrastate gas regulation in favor of a 10 cent per thousand cubic feet production tax aimed at up to 120 million dollars. The measure shifts revenue to the general fund while sparing the severance tax, with mixed reactions from officials and industry groups. The tax largely falls on out of state buyers of NM gas. The death of Jack Fore 65 of Healdton Oklahoma occurred Monday afternoon after a heart attack. Survivors include sister Mrs Bill Cummins of Lovington. Funeral services are set for Thursday at 11 a.m. at Recer Funeral Home in Healdton.
Santa Fe New Mexico. The highway commission considers raising the gasoline tax by two cents as engineers report rapid deterioration of state highways and a $15 million annual revenue need. Alternatives include applying a gross receipts tax to retail gasoline and shifting funds between departments.

Billy Sorrells a 23 year old from Loving ton and local grocer family member learns in Albuquerque he must begin spine leukemia treatment after a remission period. Doctors say early detection helps and the family will move to Albuquerque for several months near his physicians with his wife and two children.
Gibson's largest Lovington retailer was evacuated after a bomb scare at 12 noon. Police and fire units searched the store while staff warned customers to exit. The alarm proved false. authorities link the scare to a separate house fire report. Penalties include city fines up to 300 dollars and 90 days, or federal fines up to 1000 dollars and 30 days in jail.
Utah judge sets Gary Gilmore’s execution for January 17, 1977, at sunrise at Utah State Prison after ruling the 30 to 60 day scheduling rule applies to each new date. Gilmore pressed for an earlier date but agreed to withdraw a habeas motion.
Lovington student Cindy Rodgers has been named to the 1976 All State Band and will perform bass clarinet at Popejoy Hall UNM Albuquerque January 15. She led The Big Blue Band as drum major to a first place district marching title in Roswell and serves in FT staff Quill and Scroll Society and Who's Who in American High School Students. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Gene Rodgers.
In Lubbock a sporting goods store uses a 15 degree, 26 by 25 foot ramp with a nylon conveyor to simulate skiing. Instructor Mike Chandler explains the undulating terrain aids all levels from beginners to ballet skiers, with private lessons costing more than the shop package of five one hour sessions. Proximity to New Mexico and Colorado draws customers as store manager Mullin considers year round use and future skate board lessons.
