William White Nominated For West Point
Congressman E S Johnny announced the nomination of William Ray White as a competitive alternate to the United States Military Academy at West Point. White, a first year student at New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, is the son of I M and Mrs I M White of 1302. Also nominated was Raynard Lee Makin Jr of Hobbs.

The New Mexico Legislative Finance Committee approved a $135 592 operating budget for the next fiscal year in an unannounced hour long meeting. Four returning members adjourned discussions on a new transportation system with unresolved items and planned a post January 1 meeting to finalize the bill.

Hollywood reports Walt Disney died in Burbank at 9:35 a.m. PST at St. Joseph's Hospital after recent lung surgery. He was 65 and leaves wife Lillian and two married daughters. Disney built a vast entertainment empire and founded Disneyland opening in 1955 with 17 million invested. He earned 29 Oscars and numerous honors for works from Snow White to Mary Poppins.
