Hobbs Man Killed In Lovington Highway 18 Crash

A Hobbs resident, Vaughan Jordan aged 49, died seven miles north of Lovington when his truck spun on an icy Highway 18 and overturned. State Patrol reported loss of control on the icy stretch. the vehicle rolled onto the west shoulder and the driver was thrown. Jordan’s body was taken to Lovington’s Smith Rodgers Funeral Home. an inquest was planned.

King of the banjoists Eddie Peabody will headline Lovington Chamber of Commerce event on January 11 at the Auditorium. Tickets cost 1.50 for adults and 0.50 for students, available at the Champ door. Five Lovington residents reported Christmas bulbs stolen from outside lighting displays Monday night in the south part of town. Value estimated around 20 dollars with individual losses listed for Mrs Barbee, Miller, Allen Wemehreys, Mrs Aoie, and Percy Wirte, all on West M or West N streets.

A 36 year old Artesia man who had moved to Lovington with his family six days earlier died last night at Lea General Hospital about 10 30.

Costly Wreck Occurs Today In Lovington

A high cost collision occurred around 9 45 a m on South Main Street between Avenue L and Avenue M Lovington involving a 1964 Cadillac driven by Joe Del Eads 30 of 511 North Love and a 1966 Chevrolet driven by Horace Mitchell 33 of De Berry Texas. Each vehicle sustained about 1000 and 500 dollars in damage respectively. Police officers prepared the estimates. A second local crash happened at the Ninth and Tyr intersection.

Funeral set for Lea County rancher Eugene Hodge in Tatum

Funeral services for 76 year old Eugene H. Hodge longtime Lea County rancher will be held Thursday at First Baptist Church in Tatum at 1 p.m. He died after a two vehicle crash near Lovington Tuesday. Hodge born October 9 1889 in Kentucky came to New Mexico in 1908. Burial will be in Tatum Cemetery with Smith Rogers Funeral Home in charge. He is survived by a daughter Virginia Badker of Medford Oregon a son J Preseley Hodge of Lovington six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Lovington Postmaster Reese Greaves designates today as the Christmas mail deadline. Cards must include return addresses with ZIP codes. 20 000 Gabriel stamps have been sold at the Lovington office. The stamps carry first class privileges and offer forwarding if recipients have moved.

Lovington Municipal School District trustees plan to add four teachers in the upcoming second semester two elementary special teachers and two secondary English language arts instructors. Mail Trucks Overturn on Icy U S Highway 380 Near Tatum

Two mail trucks overturned on icy U S Highway 380 east of Tatum. Drivers Jake C. Osborn and Mary Goldston suffered shoulder injuries and lacerations, with both vehicles destroyed. No hospital treatment required. mail moved to Tatum Post Office. State Patrolman Todd and Deputy Joe Price led the response with the Tatum Ambulance Service.

Lea County urges drivers to slow down after deadly crashes

State police urged Lea County motorists to reduce speed on Highway 24 after a series of crashes left two dead and four injured in the past hours. Weather was blamed for three of the four traffic mishaps, according to authorities.
