Snowy Lovington Area Dims Hopes for White Christmas
Four inches of snow fell in Lea County with .45 inches moisture, reported by Lovington weatherman E H Byers. Roads out of Lovington remained open overnight but some stretches near Crossroads to Fortaies were temporarily closed. Schools were open on Tuesday though warming temperatures were forecast to melt the snowfall before Christmas. A low of 30 degrees overnight and 36 degrees by 10 am.

Two Airmen Sought After B-52 Tanker Collision
A 300 man search party in northern Maine hunted for two airmen who bailed from a B 52 after a midair collision with a KC 97 tanker during refueling. Capt William B Harris and Lt David B Morris, ages 34 and 24, disappeared in zero degree weather with survival kits. Fourteen airmen survived landings, tanker crew hospitalized as a precaution, with three minor injuries reported.
