The Lovington Chamber of Commerce Retail Merchants Committee plans a Bike Giveaway on Friday December 23 at 1 30 p m on the east side of the courthouse square Sixty one bikes will be given away free by participating merchants Each child must be present to win and tickets will be drawn from a large drum on December 23 Winners will be announced immediately and the drawing may last about two hours.

Wildcats Honor 1960 Football Squad At Awards Banquet
Jerry Brown was named most valuable player at Lovington High School’s 1960 Football Awards Banquet. John Carrell won best defensive lineman, Mel Owen best back, Leo Lowery hardest running back, and J R Neeld received the same back honor for a third time. Hubert Gill and Neeld were among those honored with wrist watches, while head coach Wilson Knapp received a 21 inch television. The team received silver footballs inscribed 1960 Class A State Football Champions. Co captains Homer Walkup and John Carrell led brief welcomes and speeches by Rod Rusk of the University of New Mexico.

Lovington Men Graduate From Recruit Training
Kenneth L. Lyon Jr and Jesse O Langlitz, apprentice petty officers, USN, sons of Lovington residents, graduated after nine weeks of recruit training at the Naval Training Center in San Diego California. Apprentices are chosen from sailors to assist Company Commanders based on aptitude and leadership.

Chase Petroleum Extends Northeast Lea Production
Chase Petroleum extends production in central Lea County with the No 1 Carper Lugby 1 wildcat and the No 1 Cox Federal well near North Mason, Delaware, and Allison pools. Artesia's Carper Drilling Co will drill 5,200 feet in Section 29-18s 35e. The Cox Federal well produced 243 barrels of 47.2 gravity oil daily through a 20/64 inch choke after acidizing and perforations. Texaco tested Wolfcamp in Eddy County near Remuda Basin, flowing 47 barrels of fluid in 9 14 hours after acidizing.
