UPD information shows five former state penitentiary guards may have resigned before their dismissal by warden Lee Aaron. The Senate voted 79 to 14 for broad changes to the banking system. Provisions allow interest on checking and savings accounts, expand lending powers for banks and thrifts, and letCredit unions offer checking and larger loans. The plan moves to the House with 35 year staged phases for rate ceilings and earliest implementation in 1978.

Six people were arrested in Clovis New Mexico on Thursday and charged with taking stolen cars from California to New Mexico in an FBI described auto theft ring. Forrest Putman, special agent in charge of the FBI, commented on the case.
U N ambassador Daniel Patrick Moynihan condemned the General Assembly as a theater of the absurd and said increasing contempt for the world body is increasingly deserved while opposing a Decolonization Committee report. The assembly approved the report 108 to 3 with one abstention. Moynihan warned Washington’s impact and outlined U S possessions in the Virgin Islands along with limited security assets.
An Albuquerque firm, Touche Ross and Co., will audit the Public Service Co. of New Mexico surcharge replacing Max Gonzales. PSC Chairman Richard Montoya said Gonzales’ contract was terminated by mutual agreement. four major New Mexico accounting firms were considered for the job.
