Jurors Picked For Red Trial In Washington

UPI reports jurors seven women and four men were chosen to hear the government against the Communist Party U S A for defying a federal order to register as an agent of the Soviet Union. Judge Alexander Holtzoff recessed the case until Wednesday afternoon after selection amid a small onlookers crowd.

No Tickets Next Week in Lovington

The Lovington Police Department will not issue parking tickets from December 15 to December 26. City Manager Wes Allen said the courtesy helps business and urges motorists to avoid parking personal cars in business park areas during the period.

Market quotas approved for cotton and peanuts nationwide

Farmers across the southern states voted to approve market quotas for the 1963 cotton crops and 1963 64 65 peanut crops. New Mexico failed to meet the required 66.7 percent approval in the reported states. Price supports for cotton will apply to growers meeting 1963 farm acreage allotments between 65 and 90 percent of parity. Similar rules cover peanuts.

Third Peaceful Nuclear Test In Ready Stage

Atomic Energy Commission scientists prepare for project Coach the third peaceful use of nuclear explosions at the Gnome site 25 miles southeast of Carlsbad New Mexico. The test will use a five to 10 kiloton device to maximize neutron flux as part of the Plowshare program. Johnson speaks to Fort Worth Chamber on Khrushchev Cuba blunder

Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson told the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce that Khrushchev made a billion dollar blunder in Cuba and that Communism has been contained. He defended the foreign aid program and warned a Communist sneak attack could cripple 65 percent of U.S. air power. Johnson cited troop movements in Florida, rocket comparisons, and predicted the U.S. would soon lead in navigation, communications, and weather research.

Plans For Apollo Test Facility At White Sands

A NASA and North American Aviation conference at White Sands New Mexico discussed costs for the Apollo spacecraft test facility. Wesley Messing estimated several hundred workers would be hired with about 100 permanent staff. North American Apollo work will include testing the service propulsion module and vehicle flight test.

Chief Witness Dies On Stand In Plainview Trial

William Burch, 65, collapsed at the witness stand during an assault and battery case in Plainview. He died en route to Plainview Hospital. Defendants Ray Pierce and Mickey Sell, both of Plainview, are charged with the attack.
