Ageno brothers and Jerry Dean win farm and ranch conservation awards as Artesia Christian College inaugurates Dr. Howard Davis as founding president. The note also salutes bread and meat as national foundations and recalls La Rochefoucauld on authenticity.
UPI reports Santa Fe Health and Social Services Director Richard Heim announced his resignation effective January. He will leave after nearly five years to join Kirschner Associates, an Albuquerque based management consulting firm. He said the move was not prompted by recent criticism.
Senator Bill Lee of Loving ton urged New Mexico to pursue a full fuel cycle using uranium and other resources. He warned missed opportunities, noted New Mexico ranks high in oil gas and uranium reserves, and criticized the pending energy bill for potentially hindering Lea County oilfield activity.
Lee points out that the federal agency has long held gas prices artificially low, subsidizing other regions with cheap energy. The piece notes free market gas as a contrast and references energy coverage on page 2.

The New Mexico Supreme Court took under advisement arguments by Attorney General Toney Anaya to reconsider its decision striking down the state doctrine of sovereign immunity. Anaya proposed delaying the ruling’s effective date to July 1, 1976 or limiting its future application.
Lawyers for Richard Greer Thomas Gladish Clarence Smith Jr and Ronald Keine subpoena District Attorney Ames Brandenburg to testify on a motion to quash the indictments claiming the grand jury evidence was recanted or false. Brandenburg weighs retry or dismissal as he reviews trial transcripts and considers charges against Kerry Rodney Lee who confessed to the killing.
United Press International reports breezy mild conditions across the southeastern plains with generally fair weather tonight and Friday. Lovington temperatures range in the 70s to 30s with 160s noted in the report.
Funeral services for E E Lowe of Munday Texas will be held Friday at 2 p m. He died Wednesday. Survivors include a granddaughter Mrs A C Taylor. Arrangements by McCauly Smith Funeral Home in Munday.
A meter maid issued a citation to the American Freedom Train at Fisherman’s Wharf for parking in a non allotted space. The locomotive, on display Wednesday, was towed to the Hall of Justice for payment. The rest of the train remained at the Presidio for public viewing.
Lovington New Mexico National Guard unit Battery C announces a recruitment drive to reach six officers and 118 enlisted. An open house Sunday 11 to 2 p m at the armory on the fairgrounds invites community members to meet officers and see training. Sergeant Shoemake heads the campaign assisted by first sergeant Lewis Shoemake, with openings in air defense artillery crewmen and several support roles. Contacts at 396-2440.
The Tatum High School FFA Greenhands won first in parliamentary procedure at District Five in Artesia. Team members Steve Duncan Terry Dean Harvey Harrison Larry Harrelson Mike Harris Jon Polson and Connie Sanders led Lovington and Artesia entries. Renee Wilmeth and Miss Sanders also placed in the FFA quiz events.
