Che Guevara says Castro planned nuclear hits on New York

Ernesto Guevara given interview in Havana said Castro planned nuclear strikes on U S cities including New York if rockets remained. He warned missiles would be used against the heart of the United States in defense of Cuba and noted Russia removed 42 missiles from Cuba weeks earlier.

Estes To Be Tried In El Paso And Pecos

Federal Judge R Ewing Thomason set Billie Sol Estes to stand trial March 11 in El Paso on 14 counts of a 29 count fraud indictment. The remaining 15 counts will be tried in Pecos Texas Estes 38 had earlier been convicted of theft in Tyler Texas state court and sentenced to eight years.

Kennedy returns to White House after Western tour

President Kennedy, despite a cold, returned to Washington from a West coast swing and kept a full schedule. He swore in Christian A. Herter as chief U S negotiator under the new tariff program and named William T. Gossett as Herter's deputy, then held a 45 minute briefing with Dean Rusk and Robert McNamara and presided at a cabinet meeting. The NATO council talks in Paris. Herter and Gossett duties were announced earlier.

Relay to be launched by Cape Canaveral this week

The United States plans to launch the Relay satellite from Cape Canaveral, a 172 pound international television and telephone relay designed to extend the global communications net. It will orbit 800 to 4500 miles above Earth, completing a circuit every three hours, with potential live telecasts between North America and Europe within days of launch.

The 1962 Lovington Wildcat football team will be honored at tonight's banquet hosted by the Football Parents Club. Texas Tech head coach J. T. King will be the featured speaker and outstanding Lovington players will be recognized. Banquet begins at 6 30 p.m. in the Lovington High School cafeteria.

A 1956 Buick driven by Mary Ann Moreno of Lovington failed to yield at Central and Eddy. The car struck a 1953 Chevrolet driven by Francisco Corral of Route 1 Lovington. Buick damage $150, Chevrolet $100. Moreno cited for failure to yield.
