Virginia state police captured Robert Council in rural Virginia as part of a nationwide manhunt for the Ivy Bluff prison escapees. FBI and authorities reported seven prisoners still at large, with Charles W Yank Stewart as mastermind and James Christy already captured amid cross state searches.
Santa Fe disputes arise as G Y Fails new state Corporation Commissioner denies promising to back SCC Chairman Ingram B. Pickett in 1960. He criticizes Pickett’s fund collection, pledges no campaign money from SCC employees or businesses affected by the office. Pickett campaigns for a third six year term amid Democratic rivals Burroughs and Lamb vacancy.
In New Delhi President Eisenhower urged controlled world disarmament and warned Communist China that the United States would protect its friends against an alien philosophy, signaling readiness to assist allies.
Christmas mailings by New Mexico residents are forecast to set a record this year based on October and November volumes. W. D. Brewer of the Denver Regional Office urges early and frequent mailing to ensure delivery by December 25, noting Lovington post office has higher parcel post activity and weekend hours before Christmas.
The Lovington FFA chapter sells trees from two to ten feet tall across from City Park in the former school of dance building. Proceeds fund the chapter treasury.

Mrs. Gil Haugen from Houston said they expect to return to Levington Friday. Doctors at the Children’s Hospital in Houston deem heart surgery for two year old Nancy Haugen inadvisable at this time due to her age. They call her condition not critical and note rapid progress in heart surgery could allow a wait of a year or more.
Community referendum committees named to run the cotton marketing quota vote across Lea County with polling sites in Tatum City Hall Lovington and Paymaster Gin. Voting eligibility includes cotton acreage holders while committee members are farmers and local officials.
A large Saturn first stage built in Huntsville advances toward testing by January with 137 production workers and 12 supervisors finishing seven of eight 70 inch tanks. The giant stage, 24 feet wide and 80 feet high, may travel by barge to Cape Canaveral for static tests before launch.
