Lovington Man Killed by Electrical Shock Near Artesia

Paul Anaya about 28 of Lovington New Mexico was accidentally killed by electrical shock while helping unload pipe southeast of Artesia in Eddy County. Deputy Aubrey Faught said he and his younger brother John were guiding pipe into place as a machine unloaded sections. A spark likely arced from a power line to the pipe. Anaya died at Artesia General Hospital. no burns were reported. They worked for Ferguson Construction Pipeline Co. of Lovington.

Gasbuggy Briefing Set For Sunday Shot

About 300 top executives from government and industry are to attend a Gasbuggy briefing at Albuquerque Civic Auditorium. The 26 kiloton underground detonation is scheduled Sunday at 11 a.m. at a well site east of Farmington. Attending will be members of the Joint Congressional Committee on Atomic Energy and New Mexico officials.

Services Held For E. Chase

Funeral services for Edgar Chase father of Mrs. N. O. Shirley Blancet were held at Emanuel Baptist Church in Artesia. He died last week at Artesia General Hospital after an apparent heart attack. He is survived by his widow four sons and four daughters including Mrs. Blancet.

Santa Claus Set for Lovington Christmas Promotion

Santa Claus returns tomorrow from 10 to 5 visiting participating Lovington stores as part of the Chamber of Commerce Christmas promotion. He first appeared in Lovington last Saturday and will return next Saturday December 16, then stay a week December 18 through 23 with about 30 participating businesses.

Highway Amendment Seen Safe and Effective, Lawyers Say

Santa Fe AP reports statehouse lawyers say the highway amendment appears safe and effective unless challenged in court. The case questions whether majority is based on total votes cast in the election or only on votes for the amendment. In the Nov 7 election 56,152 votes were cast. 27,598 for the highway amendment, 25,338 against.

Hobbs Man Killed in Accident on Denver City Highway

A 1959 Chevrolet pickup driven by Richard Thomas Jones, 33, of Hobbs, suffered a fatal crash about 9 30 last night ten miles north of Hobbs on the Denver City Highway. The body was found at 7 25 a.m. in the wreck with a broken neck.
