Hobbs Firms Endure Damages in $5,454.86 Ruling

W. L. Kidd Oilfield Service wins a Lea County District Court verdict over Spivey doing business as Spivey’s Welding. Damages total $5,454.86 for alleged tractor trailer and tank repairs and losses from August 1964 incident. Trial began Monday and concluded Tuesday afternoon in Lovington.

Arkansas Evolution Law Tested in State Court Suit

Susan Epperson a 24 year old Little Rock Central High School teacher filed a Chancery suit to overturn a 1928 Arkansas law prohibiting teaching evolution. Organized backing came from Forrest Rozzell and the Arkansas Education Association with attorney Eugene Warren. The suit argues the law prevents her from fulfilling her duties and discussing scientific theories.

Thieves Steal Mercury From Oil Company Meters

Quick theft reported from ll mercury meters at Sinclair Oil & Gas property in King Field northeast of Lovington. Slightly over pounds of mercury valued at 810.40 stolen, likely late Monday night or early Tuesday. Meters on north side drained. one on south side also affected. Lea County Sheriff's Office investigating.

Pontiac Driver Cited After Lot Collision at Ranch House Cafe

A 1965 Pontiac two door sustained rear damage after a minor collision in Ranch House Cafe parking lot on South Main Street shortly after midnight. A 1963 Ford pickup was undamaged. Huella Dickson of Lovington drove the Pontiac. 80 year old Charles W. Petty of Orton Texas drove the pickup and was cited for leaving the scene.

Reds Offer Pause For Christmas

Washington reports that the Viet Cong proposed a 12 hour cease fire starting Christmas Eve to allow U S and South Vietnamese troops to attend church. Officials doubt it is a peace move, noting similar pauses in past winters and during Tet. The communique came via a radio broadcast attributed to the Central Committee of the South Viet Nam National Liberation Front.

Fair with occasional high cloudiness tonight and Thursday and little temperature change. Low tonight around 96, high Thursday near 64. Lovington high Tuesday reached 60 by 2 p.m. Low this morning was 368 at 6 18 a.m. Nationwide notes show Montpelier Vt at 8 above zero and Gila Bend Aris 82 high.
