Worst Ice Storm Since '48 Hits Lea County Hard
Severe ice frost crippled Lea County with hundreds of thousands in damage to telephone and power lines. Up to 50 miles of line down plus multiple pole losses. Lovington Tatum Plains service maintained while Hobbs and Buckeye areas faced major outages. Electric crews worked from midnight through Thursday with minimal rest. One worker injured in Buckeye, others escaped harm as lines iced and thawing loomed. Police logged numerous minor accidents amid slick streets.

Williamson of Midland recorded the Pennsylvanian with 1 500 gallons through perforations at 9 698 to 9 728 feet and resumed flowing tests at No 1 Lovington State section 25 17s 36e now discovery one location east of depleted Devonian production in the Spencer pool Lea County. The section had been washed with 500 gallons and then flowed 120 barrels of new oil in 13 hours on 20 64 inch choke. Shell Oil recompleted its No 1 Henshaw Deep Unit 660 feet from north and 1 980 feet from west lines of section 24 16s 30e. depleted Devonian discovery in the Henshaw area Eddy County 10 miles northeast of Mallamar end.
