More than 300 conservationists from New Mexico and Texas attended a two day New Mexico Association of Soil and Conservation Districts convention. Floyd W. Lee San Mateo discussed land returns to private ownership and a $60,000 study of New Mexico land resources as Taylor grazing policy faces changes. State Rep Finis Leroy Heidel spoke to the group.

More than 300 persons filled the Youth Center for the First Baptist Church Loyalty Dinner. The pastor spoke on progress over the past fifty years and predicted 1959 may be the church’s greatest year yet. Children enjoyed a party planned by Mrs. Harold Runnels and Sunday School leaders. Mrs. Robert Thomas sang a medley while W. A. Anderson Jr. and Nancy Short performed solos and a duet. Ernest McNutt led arrangements and Bob Thomas served as MC. Deacon chairman Gordon Gann gave the invocation and Deacon A. E. Cook delivered the benediction.
