Aztec man pleads innocent to murder charge by reason of insanity

Roswell Man Dies In One-Car Crash In Chavez County

Project Gnome set for first peaceful nuclear test in New Mexico
The Atomic Energy Commission designates December 10 for Project Gnome the first underground nuclear test in its Plowshare program near Carlsbad New Mexico. The five kiloton detonation will occur at 8 00 a m MST 1200 feet underground in a salt formation about 25 miles southeast of Carlsbad. Seismologists will monitor seismic effects as data is shared with scientists worldwide while testing aims to study power recovery from heat and isotope production among other goals. A voice countdown will be broadcast to about 120 seismic stations to trigger instrument activation.
