Mrs. Mary Jeff Hooper 63 of Lovington died after a long illness at Good Samaritan Center. Born May 27 1912 she married F H Pete Hooper July 13 1920. She is survived by two sons a sister four grandchildren and one great grandson. Funeral services Friday at 2 p m at Smith Rogers Chapel with burial in Lovington Cemetery.

University student Seven Lent testified he caught Kerry Rodney Lee in a homosexual act before the 1974 Velten slaying, described by authorities as homosexually related. Lee, a former federal narcotics agent, has confessed in affidavits to multiple rapes and to taking part in Velten's death. Medical experts said the Velten murder showed homosexual-crime characteristics. Lent testified after Lee invoked the Fifth Amendment.
Paul Hale Isler, 21, of Tucumcari, shot at Deputy in a chase on US 54 five miles north of Carrizozo. He held two women and a child hostage in a camper before a shootout left him wounded and under guard at Alamogordo hospital. Charges of assault with intent to commit a violent felony filed. bond set at 50000.
