Lovington saw its first snow of the season as strong winds drove a cold front across the upper plains into Southeastern New Mexico. Clouds brought light flakes around 3 PM with only sprinkles and a thin flurry, not enough to cover ground. Temperatures dipped to 28 at night and rose again with clear sunshine.
Harold Runnels, New Mexico congressman, returns from the Middle East convinced the conflict has two sides. He toured with 21 congressmen, met Sadat, and urged Israel to abide by UN 242 while noting Arab and Soviet arms issues. He described battlefield lessons and observed a Cairo coup aftermath near Athens as the trip began.
Funeral services for Robert L. Robbie Byrum 25 a Lovington area resident were held this afternoon at 2 p.m. in the First Christian Church with Rev. Harold Burnside officiating.
Northeastern New Mexico faced blizzard conditions on Monday with three to four foot snow drifts in Clayton and around NM 18 and NM 56 closures. Highs ranged from 29 in Clayton to 57 in Las Cruces as the storm lingered. The death of Robbie Byrum is noted with funeral details in Lovington.
