Army officials say William Girard was reduced from SP 3/C to private after a Japanese court convicted him of manslaughter and sentenced him to more than six months. He received a three year suspended term for killing a Japanese woman at an army firing range. Officials noted no bad conduct or dishonorable discharge, though a general or undesignated discharge could follow. a court martial would be needed for either. Judge Grants 24 Divorces in Four Hours in Local Court

Alamogordo Man Dies In Two Car Crash At Highway Intersection
An Alamogordo man James H. Taylor 21 was killed in a two car crash nine miles west of Alamogordo on U S 70. A 16 year old passenger Kenneth Alliston was injured and taken to Gerald Champion Memorial Hospital with head injuries. Taylor allegedly failed to yield at the U S 70 intersection with the Holloman Air Force Base road, colliding with a car driven by S H Hollis of Lordsburg who was not injured. The death raised New Mexico 1957 road toll to 397, thirty nine more than a year ago today.

A. W. Burnett of 218 South Main was forcibly removed from his home by city police on charges of being drunk, disorderly and vagrant. After his wife signed the complaint Burnett refused to accompany officers and was carried down stairs and up three flights to the county jail.
