Blast Victims Satisfactory After Loco Hills Explosion

Two oil field workers injured in a well site blast near Artesia New Mexico were listed in satisfactory condition. Shelby Jones 39 and Arthur Crain 30 both of Snyder Texas were trying to plug a well in the Tenneco field when a nitroglycerine cap exploded. They suffered severe cuts from flying steel and tools.

Border Violator Arrested Here

A 24 year old Mexican national, Carlos M Guevara, was arrested in Lovington at 8 PM by Lea County Sheriff’s Office and is held for a United States immigration violation. Records show Guevara was born in Chihuahua and had been deported to Old Mexico once before in October of this year.

General Says Two GIs Brainwashed In Vietnam Remarks

Gen Wallace M. Greene, commandant of the Marine Corps, says two U S soldiers freed from Viet Cong captivity may have been brainwashed by communists. Sgt George E Smith of Chester West Virginia and Spec 5 Claude D McClure of Chattanooga Tennessee spoke pro peace after two years captivity, drawing skepticism from protest leader Sanford Gottlieb of SANE. Greene vows continued indoctrination efforts using the two as examples.

Marine writes note of thanks to boot camp drill instructor

Pfc. Glen Lunsford of Danville Virginia while serving in Viet Nam sent a letter from Parris Island praising Sgt. P. E. Smith and the drill instructors. He credits boot camp training with saving his life several times and hopes they remain as demanding for new recruits.

Man loses ear in Denver City bar brawl

A Denver City man suffered part of his ear torn in a late night bar fight. Lea County deputies arrived after a bar manager reported an escalating altercation. Marshall E. Patterson headed toward Seminole seeking medical help while Reed V. Crockett, 29, was extradited from Yoakum County and booked on assault charges. Crockett pled guilty and began a 15 day Lea County Jail sentence. Unclear if Patterson and his car were ever reunited.

Collision at South Main and Avenue R

A two vehicle collision at the corner of South Main and Avenue R around 5 30 p m caused moderate property damage with no injuries. The Mercury two door driven by Erin M Madin 75 of 1202 West Avenue S and a 1962 Olds four door driven by Burley D Chaffin 44 of 402 West Clayton sustained about 50 and 125 dollars in damage respectively.

Santa Fe May Cut Hazard At Deadly Airport

Santa Fe considers buying firefighting gear after two fatal air crashes killed four people. Mrs. Lynn Rogers, 42, of Texas, reported she was kidnapped and threatened by a Black man. Deputies filed the case in Fort Sumner area as a Tuesday night incident began when she was forced to drive about 150 miles to New Mexico before the assailant fled. she was unharmed.
