Rhonda Sheree Cox of Lovington, NM, crowned Cathy Colvin of Ferriday LA as 1969 Miss La Petite. Cox, 1968 World La Petite winner and 1967-68 NM champion, was the only NM placer in seven years. Jeannie Ray of Hobbs Lovington placed in the Little Miss top 10. 67 La Petite and 118 Little Miss entrants. Dress designed for Cox’s runway walk at the Dallas Apparel Mart.

Lea County Commissioners will meet Tuesday at 9:00 for regular business, including claims minutes and road report. At 10:00 bids for a water tank trailer will be opened. County clerk Effie Haldiman McCracken will present the new voting division and maps.
Donations for hurricane Camille relief may be made at New Mexico Bank and Trust Company or Lovington National Bank. Harvey Markley Lovington Red Cross chairman urges checks to be payable to the Red Cross and left at the banks. Lovington Red Cross goal is $500 with receipts already mailed to him.
Student activity tickets are available in each building principal’s office. Price is 6 for junior high and high school students and 4 for elementary students. Tickets worth 15.25 of varsity athletic events. Regular football admission 75 cents students 1.50 adults. Reserve seat preseason sales 7.50 for five home games. First varsity football game September 5 at 7 30 p.m. vs Carlsbad.

Lovington city and county offices will be closed for Labor Day with the courthouse and city hall locked. Only the Lea County Sheriff's department will remain open. Lovington Dollar Day set for Wednesday September 3 announced by Jim McCrory.

President Bruce King says approval could drop 75 percent if controversial issues like the voting age are not offered as alternatives. Debate to continue on Tuesday with legal questions from the attorney general’s office weighed.
