Elder Kenneth Jones arrives in Lovington to lead Parkview Missionary Baptist Church at 118 W Ave O. He preached his first sermon Sunday with wife Edna, after four years in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They reside in the parsonage at 118 W Ave O.
Considerable cloudiness through Friday with 20 to 30 percent shower chances in Lovington. Warmer in the northeast Friday with highs near 82 and lows around 60. North region expected 72 to 85 while Lovington tops 80.

An accident on North Main Street totaled a 1960 Pontiac and damaged a 1967 Plymouth for about 800 dollars. Drivers James Carl Emerson and Truman B. Capps, along with passenger Eric Pittman, were involved with Capps cited for DWI reckless driving no license and driving on the wrong side. Pittman was held for observation, Emerson not injured.
Mr and Mrs F E Thompson purchase the Twin Oaks Motel in Sabinal Texas and plan to assume ownership September 1 moving from Lovington where they were long time residents Mrs Thompson known as Oaty was born there and Mrs Thompson held a Lovington distributor license Emmie Kelch will replace her husband at the Lovington bus station with no replacement yet named for Mrs Thompson.
Inside today's Leader the first of 12 Football Contest pages introduces contestants who guess game outcomes across the nation for big prizes. Helen Taylor scores, urging entries this week as points accumulate through the season for the grand prize. Blanks must reach The Leader by 6 o clock Friday.
The New Mexico Highway Commission voted 2 to 0 to not accept Gen. Hugh M. Milton of Las Cruces resignation. Democratic members Trotter and Thaxton opposed the motion while Republican Espinoza abstained. Sudderth was absent and no action was taken on his letter. Governor Cargo’s removal proceedings against Sudderth Milton and Thaxton were referenced. a Supreme Court filing dismissed Milton's case.
At the Lea County Republican booth in the county fair last weekend hundreds answered six questions on issues from Vietnam to gun control. Most voting age respondents favored increased military pressure in Vietnam and reduced domestic spending to balance the deficit, with Reagan leading among GOP contenders.
Santa Fe new legislative auditor C. R. Sebastian faces questions over signing his own private audit contract. He reportedly approved a $31 950 Truth or Consequences audit while still a private public accountant and was hired with a plan to draw salary after a 30 day period. Law questions linger on conflict disclosure and whether he may have acted while not yet fully sworn in.
The body of L Cpl Edward Earl Davies USMC son of Mr and Mrs A E Cockrell of Lovington will arrive in Lubbock this evening and be brought to Lovington for funeral services Saturday at 3 at Hillcrest Baptist Church. Burial will be in Lovington Cemetery with full military honors. He was killed near Da Nang Vietnam on August 22 while assigned to the First Marine Regiment First Marine Division.
Funeral for Floy Ann Wynn founder publisher of the Jal Record was set for 2 p.m. today at Jal Church of Christ in Jal, Texas. Wynn died after an attack and had moved to Jal Alamosa, Colorado, in 1950 to publish the Record.
