Funeral services for Floyd Everett Dickson age 70 were held at Smith-Rogers Funeral Chapel with Rev. W M Beau champ and Rev. Mannie Love aul officiating. Burial followed at Resthaven Cemetery. Dickson died in Palmer County Community Hospital Friona Texas after a short illness. He is survived by his wife Minnie Friona two sons Weldon Friona and Milton Loving ton one daughter Dorotha Tarkington Hallettsville three sisters and five grandchildren. Born July 10 1897 in Kaufman Texas he moved to Lovington area in 1914 and helped start the first telephone service light and ice plants He ran a trucking business and ranch in Caprock area. After retirement he moved to Friona. He married Minnie Wise on November 2 1917. Pallbearers were A D Frier Melvin Fort Lloyd Lyon Lysman Graham Allen Russell Roscoe Caldwell Honorary pallbearers were the old timers and many friends of Minnie and Everett Dickson.
UAW negotiators unanimously recommend rejecting new contract offers from General Motors Ford and Chrysler as inadequate and inequitable citing the industry profitability while failing to meet workers and families pressing needs. The union targets a strike at one Big Three firm within days as talks continue and the International Executive Board weighs ratification.
Five Western governors sign a telegram to President Johnson and region senators urging immediate appointment of a board of inquiry under Taft Hartley to seek solutions to the nationwide copper strike. Funeral services for Lee Newton Benson aged 53 of 410 West Van Buren will be held Thursday at 10 AM. The Rev G W Turner and Rev W L Cass will officiate with Masonic and Military graveside rites to follow. Pallbearers listed include Claude Davis Leonard Carr Walter Beverly Clarence Walace Bill Barton W H Fort Jr Johnny Hayes and Sonny Williams.
The State Corporation Commission supports Chicago Northwestern Railroad acquiring control of Rock Island Lines if the south portion from Tucumcari to Memphis is sold to Santa Fe Railway. The move would make Tucumcari a busier rail terminal as merger hearings continue.
New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs will start a revolving loan fund with an initial $5,000 grant from the Sarkeys Foundation, aiming to reach $25,000 as additional funds come in. H. C. Pannell and Reed H. Chittim will be advisory trustees, with loans for self supporting students and a three faculty member committee screening recipients.
The Algerian government nationalized the marketing subsidiaries of Standard Oil Co of New Jersey and Socony Mobil Oil Co in Algiers. A decree provides compensation to firms and another requires foreign oil producers to sell their oil outside Algeria. Sonatrach aims to dominate national distribution, with British Petroleum previously nationalized.
Lovington police report a Tuesday lunch hour accident when Milton Lee Roy Southerland 48, swerved north on South Main in a 1967 Ford and struck a brick fence at the T and T Motel. Damages were $350 to the fence and $425 to the car. Southerland cited for careless driving. A break in at Sea Pumping on South Main was also reported with a grey check protector stolen by forcing entry through a broken lower glass door. Value not announced.
