Saigon Nguyen Khanh renounced as president after six days of student and Buddhist protests against his one man rule. The 37 year old army officer agreed to abolish the military constitution and dissolve the military revolution committee.

Women’s entries close at 12:00 noon Wednesday, Flower Show 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Gem and Minerals 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon Wednesday, Farm & Garden close Thursday at 8:00 a.m., Wool Show exhibits due by 12:00 noon Wednesday, Quarter Horse Show closes August 29 at 8:00 a.m., Appaloosa Horse Show book closes at 8:00 a.m. August 2, Junior Home Economics entries end at 12:00.

Lovington teen Martha Lee Schenck, 16, daughter of Mr and Mrs Jack Ahuddell, competes for Lea County Fair and Rodeo Queen this morning. She is a Lovington High junior active in 4 H Pinkettes Powderpuff Football and Future Teachers of America and plans to attend Eastern New Mexico University after graduation. She also belongs to the Lea County Sheriff's Posse which appears at local rodeos.
The Lea County Fair lists a full schedule from August 26 to 29 including junior market hog and lamb weighings, queen contest, horse show, home economics and wool judging, poultry and rabbit judging, a parade, barbecues, and rodeos with livestock judging and the junior livestock auction. The events run at McClure Arena and McAllester Park with dismantling on Saturday evening.
The 1964 Lea County Fair is dedicated to Mrs. Melvin Bea Fort Secretary of the Lea County Extension Service. She is a longtime supporter of local youth and a persistent builder for the fair.
The 1964 Lea County Fair & Rodeo opens with a 4:00 p.m. Lovington parade. Harold Baer says 65 entries so far, many with multiple units, featuring sheriff posse groups from Eddy and Lea counties, Plains Rough Riders, and more. Parade marshals assign positions on Avenue J and South Ist, with officials in vehicles lining up along Main Street.
At the 34th Democratic National Convention in Atlantic City Mississippi regulars bolt the floor rather than sign a loyalty oath to support Johnson and Humphrey. The convention seats two Freedom Party delegates and later approves a compromise seating plan while Gov. Paul Johnson weighs in.
Top cowboys from across the nation arrive tonight at 7 30 for the Greater Lovington Rodeo tied to the Lea County Fair. Walt Alsbaugh supplies stock from Alamosa Colorado with two famous critters Charles and Red Cloud in the lineup. Entries total 40 by noon and more expected as morning figures rise. The event boasts a $6000 purse and features bull riding saddle bronc and steer events with Bud Townsend announcing and rodeo clown Roger Mawson entertaining.
Washington APS reports union and management met to settle a contract dispute that shut down most Pan Am operations. About 12 000 TWU members walked off. Cape Kennedy and MATS flights continued. Key issues include 15 percent pay raise, 237 hour work week and steward rest periods.
