The steer weight Hereford named grand champion at the fair as the rodeo continues through Saturday. The junior livestock sale is this afternoon and Festus Hagen of Gunsmoke appears nightly with the Frontiermen and Joanie through tomorrow night.

State finance director Ed Hartman reports 10 aircraft were used only 35 percent of potential use time. The plan estimated three hours per airman per day, totaling 630 hours for July, but planes flew just 223 hours that month.
The Reverend Robert Y. Dav is bishop of New Mexico and Southwest Texas will hold an August 27 service at St. Marys Episcopal Church Lovington. He will celebrate Holy Communion and preach at 10:00 a.m. One service only. Dav is noted as the first resident vicar of St. Marys and lived in Lovington from March 1957 until his retirement in 1960.
Juan Rodriguez, 19, of Lovington wins a ten dollar produce certificate at Lovington Produce grand opening events running Wednesday to Saturday. Manager Bill Cooper says twenty fair tickets twenty rodeo tickets and produce certificates totaling one hundred dollars will be awarded as the celebration continues. Lovington Produce is at 1402 South Main.
Defense secretary Robert McNamara warns that no American bombing campaign short of city attacks would force North Vietnam to surrender. He asserts there is little chance any conventional air or naval action will end the war, and says North Vietnamese leaders are not persuaded to negotiate through bombing. He spoke to the Senate Preparedness Subcommittee amid hearings on the air war.
The House cut President Johnsons foreign aid requests by 344 million with total reductions of 563 million below his ask. The 202 to 194 vote followed a marathon 15 hour session and left NATO and Alliance for Progress funds trimmed. A two house conference will resolve remaining differences.
George Lincoln Rockwell head of the American Nazi party was killed by a sniper shot from a high building near the party headquarters in Arlington Virginia. Police reported the fatal shooting occurred today and left the movement leader dead.

The Red Cross No Lea County Chapter offered 21 complete courses this summer at the Ho day Swimming Pool under instructor Stella Louise Wildman from Tat. Juniors who finished include Ray Clardy Jerry Gregory Bo Knox Randy Selman and Jot Sumruld. Seniors listed are Bill Key Becky Brinkley Johnny Enum Susan Caldwell Wood Coe Terry Duncan Mike Ex Carol Hamzy Barby Mil Richard Shelton Judy Wake Jerome Bradshaw Billy David Jennings and Milton ney. Juniors are 12 and seniors 16 to take the course.
Patty Kinman from Taylor Junior High misplaced her cheerleading pom-pom after a parade, leaving it in a car briefly. She hopes to recover it as reordering is not feasible before football season. Kinman lives at 302 Avenue L and can be reached at 396-3462.
