A two car crash at 3:27 p m at Avenue J and Second Street involved Earl Wayne Caddell 20 driving a Pontiac and Tom my Jack Shelton 19 in a Chevrolet. Both drivers limited to property damage with totals of 275 and 300 dollars. Caddell cited for failure to yield right of way and faulty equipment.
Jim Jameson has been named president of the Lovington board of education succeeding retired Hobby Gann. He was elevated at a board meeting and previously filled the unexpired term of John Campbell in 1964. Jameson and his wife Fern live at 1006 W Avenue F and have two children. He is vice president and cashier at Lovington National Bank, moved here from El Paso after working with SIC for two years.
The Lovington school board accepted W A Jourdan Construction Company of Hobbs for 879000 to build four new buildings across three Lovington campuses. Delays arose from state law changes and related project confusion.
The New Mexico Highway Commission moved to place the legal section under the attorney general and require that all contracts and memoranda be approved by the AG. Chairman Sudderth said the step addresses intensive legal demand and hearings. The attorney general demanded full authority to run the division and four new attorneys within a year.
Noel Martinez, 26, of Clovis was shot and killed by New Mexico State Police after a high speed pursuit on U S 66. A criminal investigator recognized him as wanted by Portales Sheriff and attempted a stop before Martinez accelerated away. Page eight note references ongoing coverage.

Judging was underway at Lea County Fair with first prize in booth competition. Frairview won top community division with a globe display and farm-product scene. Scouting division saw Girl Scouts win blue ribbon for Unity in Scouting. Boy Scouts placed second. Lovington FFA earned blue in its division. Lovington FHA first and Taylor Junior High second in FHA.
Gov. Jack M. Campbell dispatched State Planning Officer John Flynn and Planners Peter Hays and Duane Settle to Carlsbad to inspect flood damage and confer with city and county leaders. Mayor Robert Boyd reported about 125 homes damaged and preliminary public damage at 100000 dollars.
Johnny Elliott of Lovington son of Mr and Mrs J E Elliott will speak at the Assembly of God Church at 4th Street and Avenue C starting tomorrow through Sunday night Services begin at 7 00 p m and all are invited according to Pastor C M Otts Elliott is in his final year at Southwestern Bible College Waxahachie Texas
G B Crump of 332 West Avenue reported a wallet theft from a local bar. He left it unattended for a few minutes, returning to find it gone with estimated value of 203 dollars. Crump filed a stolen goods complaint for more than 100 and less than 2500 dollars. Investigation continues to identify the suspect.
