Infant Drowns in Lovington Bath Tub Accident
A 17 month old, Marcus Walters, died after being left unattended in a bathtub at the Walters home in Lovington. Viola Walters, 17, placed him in the tub and turned on the water before chores. he was found unconscious and died at Lovington Lea Hospital. Deputy Hal Dew investigated with autopsy by Dr Dorothy Lee as Don Maddox called in the coroner.

Fires Strikes Lovington Area Arson Suspects Sought
A series of rural fires hit Lovington area Saturday evening with grass and hay barn blazes at the Leroy Sumruld farm near 6 pm and a house fire near the city disposal plant at 6 50. Two Spanish American men seen nearby are being sought as possible arson suspects with no arrests made.

Eight Killed On NM Roads Friday
The death of Alfonso Archuleta, 27, a Raton man, raised New Mexico highway fatalities to eight for Friday. Archuleta died when his car left U S 87 64 and overturned twice. his body lay 66 feet from the vehicle. State Police noted two other fatal night crashes near Wagon.
