U S B52 bombers from Guam dropped tons of bombs on a Viet Cong concentration near Chu Lai while air force fighters struck a railway bridge about 30 miles from the Chinese border.
Gemini 5 pilot Charles Conrad joked singing from space during orbit 31 as McDivitt teased him while Buzz Aldrin relayed fuel and status checks. Cliff Payne of Lovington has been appointed by Governor Jack M. Campbell to the Eastern New Mexico University Board of Regents, filling the vacancy created by H. C. Parnell. Payne, a Dallas and Lubbock trained attorney and cotton industry businessman, has long served Lovington as chamber leader and Boy Scouts official, and he plans to uphold the universitys high educational standards while guiding regional cotton interests. He and wife Helen are parents of five sons.
