Open House Set for $3 Million Steam Plant by Lea County Coop
Lea County Electric Cooperative invites members to view its new 3 million dollar steam power plant built to expand the system. The open house runs Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the plant site one mile north of Lovington beside the diesel plant. Capacity reaches 19 000 kilowatts, boosting total capability to 33 000 kilowatts. the diesel unit has operated for 12 years.

Union sues Shell over picket violence at refinery

Explosion Kills Three in Mexico City Apartment Collapse
A gas explosion wrecked a seven story building in Mexico City killing three people including an 18 year old girl. A woman was hurled into a passing car by blast force and 10 apartments were demolished. Tenants sought refuge in nearby homes and a park as clothing furniture and fixtures flew into the street. The blast reportedly felt like an earthquake.
