Manley Bound Over On Manslaughter Charges
Lovington man Sam Manley was bound over to District Court on charges of manslaughter and negligent homicide after a State Patrol investigation of a collision that killed Erwin Wiggins on State Road 18. Witnesses testified Manley appeared intoxicated and admitted drinking before the crash, with police noting no skid marks and the other car traveling at high speed. Judge J. W. Two Accidents Reported In Hobbs On Thursday
Two minor automobile accidents occurred Thursday afternoon within Hobbs city limits. The first, at 3 10 p m in the 300 block of East Marland involved a 1952 Studebaker pickup driven by Hoyt M Medlin of 50 East Marland and a 1955 Buick driven by Willis J Davis of 1200 West Marland. Medlin received a citation for failure to yield. Damages to the Buick were about 75 dollars. Charlene Casebeer of 3094 North Houston was cited for no driver s license after her 1953 Dodge collided with a 1950 Chevrolet at the Snyder Del Paso intersection around 4 00 p m. The Chevy driven by Albert Wood of 506 East Alston sustained about 150 dollars in damage while the Casebeer car had about 125 dollars in damages.

Body of kidnapped Peter Weinberger recovered in Long Island
Police found the four week old baby's body 150 feet from a busy highway in Nassau County after confessing kidnapper Angelo Lamarca led investigators to the site. Lamarca, a 31 year old mechanic and father of two, claimed he abducted the infant to cover debts and staged the crime less than 24 hours after taking him from Westbury. The Weinberger family, hopeful until the end, had pleaded for their child's safety.
