Four Belt State Pen escape leaves four at large
Four convicts escaped from New Mexico state prison last night. One was shot and captured, Charles R. Willmar, in serious condition after surgery for a back gunshot wound. The other three, Marvin Vaughn John Edward Bostrom and Roy E F LaRoux, were still at large as roadblocks and searches continued with state police, mounted patrols, sheriff's posse, city police and volunteers.

Maljamar Day Festival Draws Hundreds to Lovington Park
Maljamar gears up for its annual Maljam ar Day at Dru Taylor Park this Saturday with a 6:30 p.m. barbecue and 9:00 p.m. dance. The Plains Men Lovington band provides music as Clarence Dozier and Bob Patterson handle barbecue duties from 2:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Proceeds aid Lions Club projects including sight conservation at Llano Elementary School and park upkeep. The event expects up to 1500 attendees, with 1409 last year, and features a Boy Scouts concession and Lioness coffee service. The Lions Club, now 17 members, governs seven committees and multiple officers.

Lovington Teachers Begin 1962-63 School Year with Welcome Events
