Rancher Loses Finger While Rope Handling Sick Cow
Grover Whitmire suffered a finger loss Sunday when his right hand was caught in the rope used to restrain a sick cow. He and his ranch foreman were roping the animal to treat it, and the injury occurred. Whitmire was treated in Lovington with tetanus shots and returned home to Portales.

A father and his 15 year old son fought at Ted's Trailer Court on the Carlsbad Highway Tuesday evening. The elder Sudan 46 was armed with a shotgun but was subdued. He and his son were arrested for disturbing the peace and discharging a firearm.
