Lack of attendees at a meeting in the Vocal Music Building led Lovington High School to extend the night class enrollment deadline to Monday noon. Russell Harrison, supervisor, said about eight individuals would have enough credits to graduate if sessions proceed. The program serves students in grades nine through 12 needing credits for the diploma.
Lovington's CAP auxiliary plans a two day cadet fly out with 9:30 a.m. start Saturday and a 15 minute intro before 45 minutes of flying. Open to ages 13 to 17. meeting 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at First Christian Church Monday.
Ray Franklin Decker 29 of Lovington is bound over to district court on two counts of attempt to commit a felony murder and two counts of aggravated assault. Judge Virginia Pier found probable cause on all counts at yesterday’s preliminary hearing. Decker is jailed in Lea County pending further hearings after a gun battle with local law enforcement.
Lovington received .54 inches of rain yesterday evening ending a dry spell. August opened with .38 inches over four days from the sixth to the ninth, boosting the month total to .32 and the year to 6.55 inches. The 1966 breakdown shows January .38, February .03, March .30, April 1.86, May .87, June 1.85, July .34.
Lovington businessman Herb Oliver who sold his Abbott & Oliver interest this week plans to move to Albuquerque this weekend. He will work for Singer Sewing Machine Company at a company owned store in Winrock Shopping Center in northeast Albuquerque. He and his wife and children have found housing. Oliver relocated from East Texas 11 years ago saying Lovington is a great place to live and raise a family.
The Progressive Citizens of Lovington set up an eight member study committee to review city revenue options and report in two weeks. They discussed sales tax prospects for Hobbs and Lovington, potential savings, and alternative revenue avenues while electing officers and planning unity actions.

Lovington’s 1966 year-to-date rainfall stands at 6.55 inches and statewide highs yesterday reached 95 in Carlsbad with 52 in Las Vegas. temperatures vary across the region.
The Lovington and Tatum club members sponsor the Lovington Appaloosa Horse Show to be held tomorrow in the Jake McClure Arena. Judging starts at 9:00 a.m. with 38 classes.
