Ivy Metcalf, Curry County Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service director, says he lost about 17 000 by selling wheat early as prices moved from 2.50 2.75 to higher then fluctuated. The Lovington Ministerial Alliance will meet Thursday August 23 at 10 00 a m in the fellowship hall of First United Methodist Church. Mrs Gloria Miller elementary curriculum coordinator with Lovington Schools will speak to the group. Thirteen churches and ministers join the alliance with more invited to participate. Monthly meetings planned for the new year.
Joe Wenske, 45, was found dead in his trailer at 702 S Second by friend Barney Bailey. Neighbors had not seen him for days and called Bailey. Coroner ruled natural causes with no foul play. funeral arrangements pending at Smith Rogers Funeral Home.

The Hobbs home office remains, with a 25 000 barrel per day refinery under construction at Lovington by Foster Wheeler due in Q3 1974, and a 5 000 barrel plant at Monument, New Mexico, operating for 24 years.
A witness testifies in a Clovis bribery case that Big Country Ford altered records to hide a vehicle given as a gratuity for a SBA loan. The driver, a Chevrolet Blazer, was removed from inventory to dodge audits, with defendants Pommerening Reding and Gomez facing bribery and false testimony charges. Separately, New Mexico sue lands at Texas line over a spill notification violation by an oil firm.
