Hearing Set For Lovington Businessman In Rape Case

Four Held For Car Theft Involving Teens
Four Hobbs residents including two adults Clifford Simmons 24 and Wayne Wagner 20 and two teens Raymond Clark 17 and James L. Smith 14 were jailed in Lea County after authorities tied them to a local dealer auto theft. The group allegedly stole the car then traveled to Santa Rosa Lovington Roswell Vaughn and near Arizona before a tire blew and the vehicle was wrecked and abandoned. Simmons faces forgery charges for attempting to cash a $27.50 check. Wagner is charged with car theft. The two minors await formal charges.

236 Traffic Victim Recorded in N. M.
The 236th traffic fatality of the year occurred in New Mexico when California woman Mrs. Irma Leach 58 was killed on US Highway 666 about 23 miles south of Shiprock. Her husband in the back seat was unharmed. Last year at this time New Mexico had 208 fatalities.
