Coroner's jury ruled Mat tie Restine aged 13 and Patty Sue Pritz aged 14 died from gun shot wounds inflicted by a person or persons unknown. Pathologist Dr. Fred Haynes said both girls were killed by a missile probably a .38 caliber bullet.

A 13-year-old boy in East Brunswick New Jersey received only a bruise after a 32 caliber bullet fired at point blank range bounced off his chest. Police said the boy named Frank Doerr was playing in a friend's cellar with an old pistol when the friend pointed it at his heart and pulled the trigger. The shell casing cracked and most of the force was spent before the bullet left the barrel and it did not penetrate his shirt.
Bonn Germany Chancellor Konrad Adenauer summoned the West German cabinet to a crisis session before a planned meeting with Soviet ambassador Andrei Smirnov as tensions over Berlin rise.
Smirnov returned to Bonn from Moscow on Saturday to confer with West German leaders after he requested the face to face talk. The cabinet, meeting for a second time in two days, condemned the East Berlin blockade as a crime against humanity and said counter measures are being considered while avoiding actions with unforeseen consequences.
Two out of state motorists died in separate crashes on New Mexico highways on Tuesday and six other people were injured. The fatalities were Orman L. Ashenfelter, 44, of El Paso and Mrs. Lydia Strand, 64, of Tucson.

John Gott deputy state finance director told the Legislative Finance Committee that all New Mexico public schools will award teachers their due pay increases this year. He said there are no known exceptions and that scale step-ups will occur even as some districts cut teacher numbers due to financial squeeze. Rep Stanley Brasher questioned why state police salaries weren't frozen as college salaries were.
The New Mexico State Highway Commission will be questioned by state attorneys and lawmakers on August 23 as part of a joint investigation by Atty. Gen. Earl Hartley and the interim Legislative Finance Committee into road building. Five commissioners may be subpoenaed if they do not attend.

An 18 year old Levington construction worker, Ronnie Chapman of 1106 W Taylor, received a deep cut to the foot while cutting brush on the Texas New Mexico pipeline west of Tatum. He was treated at Levington Sea General Hospital and released. He is employed by Ferguson Construction Co of Lovington.
Three adults on bicycles carrying four children pedalled toward the West German border and rode past East German guards. Officials did not release names. One East German soldier defected Tuesday night by climbing over barbed wire into West Berlin wearing uniform and helmet with pistol.
