Three Injured in Weekend Auto Crashes In Lovington Area
State Police investigated two weekend accidents injuring three people and trapping a valuable quarter horse for five hours. A Sunday crash north of Lovington on S. R. 18 sent Bernice Ashley to Lea General Hospital with facial and head injuries. A Monday early morning wreck on S. R. 483 overturned a pickup, trapping the horse aboard a trailer. rescuers freed the animal with a sedative aid from Dr. L. P. Clarke. The horse, valued at $2,000, and vehicles sustained damage.

Rapes Sentenced in Santa Rita Case
Dist. Judge H Vearle Payne sentenced three men and a juvenile for the July 17 rape and attempted rape of a 15 year old girl near Santa Rita. Anastacio Nuanez 22 received 199 years, Sammy Carrasco 21 and Frank Arranello 20 each 150 years, and a 17 year old to Springer Boys Reform School until 21. Tony Maljaca 21 pled innocent and awaits Sept 17 trial. The trio to be sent to the state penitentiary at Santa Fe immediately.

Eastern Air Lines crew flew to Havana to return a hijacked airliner that had been forced to Cuba on July 24. The ten man team included pilot co pilot and engineer along with mechanics and inspectors. A Cuban patrol boat was ferried from Annapolis to Havana by defectors and three men. Ten Cuban refugees rescued in the Bahamas were to arrive at Key West later today.
