Britain backs Ike peace plan in UN session

British Foreign Secretary Selwyn Lloyd voiced full support for President Eisenhower’s Middle East peace plan. Enrollment Schedule Sets 1958-59 Start Dates

Soviet Attacks Ike Middle East Plan Speech

Moscow state media and radio condemned President Eisenhower's Middle East program as an attempt to justify U S intervention in Lebanon. A New York dispatch called the plan a so called peace initiative and accused Eisenhower of seeking armed intervention based on Lebanon's claim of a legal government. Radio Moscow echoed Gromyko criticizing the plan and urging immediate U S and British troop withdrawal.

Tulsa case widens as child swap story develops

A Texas woman claims she is the infant’s grandmother and plans to confront the alleged mother Mrs Richard Readdy in Tulsa. Police prepared to press child abandonment charges against the Readlys after a man swapped a 42 month old boy for a 1957 pickup truck and three people were jailed.

Presley’s Mother Dies at 42 in Memphis Hospital

Mrs Vernon Presley, Elvis Presley’s mother, died of an apparent heart attack in a Memphis hospital at about 4:15 a.m. c.d.t. She was 42. Vernon Presley was at her side. Elvis slept at Graceland in Whitehaven. The physician said death was unexpected and followed a day of feeling better.

Two Held Confess To Break-ins In Carrizozo

District Attorney Pat Hanna says two men arrested in Carrizozo confessed to breaking and entering two local sites Sacra Bros Lea County and Cotton Butane. They await trial in Lincoln County. Hanna predicts two more men confessed to over twenty robberies. The Sacra burglary involved a hauled off safe found later in the Pecos River containing money books and papers.

Hobbs Gains On Midland In Rain-Interrupted Tilt

Hobbs rallied from a four run sixth to beat Plainview 12-11 after rain postponed the Braves game with Artesia. Robert Herrera drove in three Hobbs runs with two doubles, Ken Bryant added a double and two singles, while Bob Jacobson homered in the eighth to steady the comeback. May Construction Funds For Clovis Armory Approved

UPI reports Senator Dennis Chavez of New Mexico says $94 000 has been made available for a National Guard Armory in Clovis. The money is federal contribution but funds released only if local enlistment strength is sufficient. Guard units from New Mexico are in Texas for summer maneuvers.

Premature Eunice Baby Gaining Strength

A one pound eight ounce baby boy born at Eunice Hospital Saturday night is alive and improving. The infant, four months premature, is in an incubator rushed from Hobbs, nourished by a feeding tube, with doctors reporting faint movement and a weak cry. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Poke Bowden and grandson of Judge and Mrs. Faugh Bodwen.

Three Die On NM Highways

A head on collision about 22 miles east of Albuquerque killed three people. John J. Moore 48 and Grace Moore 45 of Manchester Connecticut died with John Patrick Henry driver of the other car. Moore couple were returning from a California vacation. Henry was entering Albuquerque. State highway deaths reached 210 for the year.

At White Sands New Mexico a Talos anti aircraft interceptor destroyed a Kingfisher supersonic target missile in a defensive test.
