Rev. Kenneth Ford, 48, now at Fort Stockton, will join First United Church in Lovington as minister Friday. He succeeds Rev. Edwin Chappell who moves to Asbury United Methodist in El Paso. Ford has pastored in Kermit Silver City Roswell Albuquerque and others. He is a native of Abilene and studied at Abilene High McMurry Fordham SMU Perkins. He was licensed 1942 ordained deacon 1951 elder 1952. His wife is Janie Lou Dunnam of Artesia.

The Lea County Fair and Rodeo hosts the Old Fiddlers Contest finals on Saturday August 18 with $450 in prizes. Older fiddlers up to age 50 perform two numbers each starting at 4 00 pm. finals occur at intermission.
